Project Status
The Washington Theater Redevelopment Commission and Friends of the Washington Theater are pleased to announce that the Market Analysis and Feasibility Study has been completed. This important study was sought in order to determine the viability of proceeding with the rehabilitation of the theater.
The study has provided an objective analysis of the feasibility of the Washington Theater project; identified the use options; determined the architectural implications of such proposed uses; and specifies the resources required to deliver a viable program to the residents of Quincy. A 5-year business plan for operation has also been created.
The consultants retained by the Commission, Janis A. Barlow and Associates, presented their findings and recommendations to the public on Monday, March 27, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. at a press conference scheduled in the Council Chambers. Janis Barlow and Dulcie Gilmore presented an Executive Summary to the Aldermen in a brief presentation that Monday evening at the City Council meeting. Commission members will also be available for comment.
Additionally, extensive roof repairs and tuck-pointing have been completed as part of the first phase of the project. These repairs have stabilized the building and will prevent any further deterioration. All repairs have been funded by grant money.
As the theater project moves forward, the Friends of the Washington Theater are looking for input and volunteer help to restore the majestic Washington Theater. Opportunities are available for everyone.
The Washington Theater is one of Quincy’s jewels and we need community support to save it. We want volunteers with specific skills and those who just want to help out. In the end, the community will be using the facility once the renovation work is complete. The input and help we receive in the beginning is an important element in the completion of this project.
